I am an Appreciative Adventurer – finding joy and beauty everywhere I am and everywhere I go. In art, as in life, I am drawn to express the up side, the sunny side, the inspiring message that life is good. I hope others feel encouraged and heartened for having been in my presence and in the company of my work.
Whether it’s a palette of paints, bolts of fabric, skeins of yarn, or acres of tulips, bright colors catch my eye. Bright light and lyrical lines lift my spirits and make me smile. Where color and light are absent, I’ll throw some in as an expression of what could be.
With pen or brush in hand, with paints and paper in front of me, I am easily captivated by the moment – and just plain happy! Splash and squiggle is how I work. Ink and watercolor is where I live. My best work appears when I’m able to hold that lighthearted, playful spirit.
I hope you enjoy these images, and that you choose to make my art a part of your world. Welcome to the PauseWorks Studio Gallery. Enjoy!

For More On The Journey So Far:
Tucked in my backpack, on a post college trip to Europe over 35 years ago, were a pencil, six small tubes of watercolor, a paintbrush, and a sketchbook. Very little remains of my artistic efforts from that adventure.
In the intervening years, my love of color and design expressed itself in many different mediums. In the wardrobes I sewed for my daughters and myself. In the fibers I dyed and spun into yarn on my grandmother’s spinning wheel. In the textiles I wove on my 45” Swedish floor loom. In the garden landscapes I created around our homes.
Ten years ago, the urge to grab a brush and give painting another try surfaced once again. And so I traded my sewing machine, spinning wheel, loom and garden trowel for a paintbrush. I started taking lessons, making mud and enjoying myself immensely.
Saskatchewan WC artist, Cecelia Jurgens, was my first instructor. I have since taken several classes from Cecelia and traveled with her on two painting trips to Europe (one to France and another to Spain, Portugal and Morocco).
I’ve also studied with other watercolor artists along the way. In 2009, a class with Nova Scotia mixed media artist, Brian Atyeo. In 2011, a class with UK artist Judi Whitton in the Cotswolds of England. Also in 2011, a class with Wisconsin WC artist, Karlyn Holman at Art In The Mountains in Bend, Oregon.
I now pack a sketchbook and paintbox in my bag everywhere I go, keeping my eye peeled for sights to capture along the way. It has changed the way I look at the world.
The early muddy waters have cleared, my results have improved, and the paintings and sketches have started piling up in the studio. And so, I start to share them with the world.
My paintings and WC sketches can be found in private collections across the globe: France, England, Saudia Arabia, the USA (Georgia, Oregon, Iowa, Minnesota), and Canada (Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta).
